Muqtada’s father was Mohammed Sadiq. (full name Mohammed Mohammed Sadiq as-Sadr). Note, as-Sadr vs. al-Sadr, the son. That’s why daddy was as-Sadr and son was al-Sadr.
Mohammed Sadiq was an Iraqi Shia cleric, descended from a famous line. He was a 12th Mahdi adherent who opposed Saddam. Right up until early 1999 when Saddam’s boys gunned him down in an ambush along with two of his sons.
That’s why Muqtada al-Sadr is such a revered personage for Iraqi Shia. Even though he’s mentally slower than molasses in January. The Iranians propped him up big time after OIF 1 to this day.
