The husband used to say it that way until I teased him out of it.
About 50 years ago, my late mother quipped that it was pronounce that way only if you paid more than $20 for it.
Maybe it’s NY accent thing?
I grew up thinking “spatula” was pronounced “spatuler” until I read the word.
