Giants fire coach Pat Shurmur, keep GM Dave Gettleman

The New York Giants fired coach Pat Shurmur on Monday after two seasons on the job, but the team is keeping general manager Dave Gettleman. Shurmur was told of his dismissal a little before 9 a.m., according to a source. Shurmur still plans to meet with the team at 11 a.m. ET, and his assistants will be met with individually later Monday.

Daniel Jones played at Duke under a head coach who had previously coached both Peyton and Eli Manning. He's seen as a perfect successor to Eli Manning, and has had a great relationship with him since he was drafted.

One of the problems the Giants foresaw with that crop of 2018 QBs was that they weren't sure any of them was ready to start in the NFL right away, and they weren't sure how Manning would respond to playing ahead of a "starter-in-waiting" who he didn't know.

C'mon, Eli is barely a .500 QB; only made the playoffs a few times in his 15 years, and got lucky twice in the SB.
If Danny Dimes follows that pattern of mediocrity , I'll be forced to start rooting for the (ugh) Buffalo Bills.
