We thought about moving there, somewhere around Crescent City or Eureka. I really wanted my husband to go salmon fishing and can have all the salmon I want :-)

Coming from the desert, the year-round almost constant temperature sounds wonderful. But it’s just a touch on the cool side! I was curious what sort of things would even grow in my garden.

Hi CB,

I’m in the Fort Bragg, Mendocino area which is south of Crescent City and Eureka. It does take some people a while to get used to the weather, but once one does it’s very difficult to go back to the extreme temperatures inland especially in the summer.

As far as crops, unfortunately I’m not the best person to ask, but I do know there is a fairly wide range of vegetables that can be grown. Maybe not as much right here on the coast but you can go 5 miles inland and actually do quite well.

As far as what grows in our area, it’s limited, but probably more than you would think. My neighbor has a garden and has grown the following: almost any root vegetable, lettuce, kale, squash beans, peas, blueberries strawberries, cherry tomatoes, zucchini etc...

There are more things that I know I’m forgetting, but this will give you an idea.
