My Resolutions (although I just call them “plans”):
1. Grow 70 or more “Bigger Better Butternut” squash. This is a Carol Deppe variety, and was very hard to get hold of. She introduced it at about the same time she stopped filling orders. After much searching, I found someone who had bought a packet from her in-person and grew them out. They sent me over 100 seeds :) I hope to offer it to Baker Creek, as well as sharing seeds online next year.
2. Grow at least 20 plants from my pumpkin-breeding project. 2 of them last year were sweeter than sugar. I’m hoping to stabilize that trait.
3. Grow my own luffa gourds.
4. Try out 3 new melon varieties and see how they do.
5. Figure out a way to keep the weeds to a manageable level.
6. Build lots of trellises.
Nice, that is impressive about the sweet pumpkins.
5. Weed suppression: Cardboard between the rows. Start saving it now! Start ordering from Chewy for pet supplies and you’ll have all the cardboard you need! ;)
6. Trellises - Do you have a set pattern you’re using? Let me know and I’ll ask my ‘MacGyver’ if he has any ideas for you to simplify things! He needs projects this winter; maybe he could build some for you? He’s already making a fireplace mantle for a friend, so all of his woodworking stuff is readily available!
