When I was in sales, I called mostly on senior management of Fortune 500 companies and while I was very conservative, there was no reason worth while to get into political discussions with customers or prospects.
If I lost a single sale, it would cost my company 7 or 8 figures of revenue and me 6 figures and there was no way I would risk that kind of income for a political battle.
Being retired, I don't go looking for political fights, but I won't fade away. My risk is not financial but there are crazies out there.

Ah! I see what the problem is. I'd like to thank you for reminding me of an important lesson: not everyone is similarly equipped to go through life. Not better, not worse, just not similar.
With your proclivity to use barely relevant platitudes and apparent inability to argue a case on its merits, you've hit upon a perfectly valid walk-off-the-battlefield strategy that suits your abilities precisely. For you to respond in any other fashion would do a disservice to you and, quite frankly, our cause in general. On behalf of Conservatives everywhere, I commend you for figuring this out!
One note though: Even if you're a hammer, not every problem is a nail. And the lesson that you just re-taught me (that I hope you'll bear in mind as well): Not everyone is a hammer.
