My mom fed us that whenever we had a cold or cough. I think it was by prescription, though. It made us sleepy.

whoa...my dad used to get that for us....lol. It was by prescription. I guess back in the 50’s-60’s, dopeheads used to boot Paragoric...yeesh.

Paregoric...powdered opium in tincture form....you get a tiny bit of morphine per dose. Got camphor and anise in it...ok as antidiarrheal but superseded by other antidiarrheals.can be used as Anti coughing...
Cod liver oil was for constipation.
Ginger ale (warm & no bubbles) was to keep you from being dehydrated...so flu, cold....
Paregoric was wonderful!! It put us to sleep. Opium.
It was used for abdominal cramping and diarrhea. It tasted like licorice and made you feel sleepy because it was tincture of opium.
