The results are in. Voters are sick of impeachment.
When CNN polled voters in November, 90 percent of Democrats were in favor of impeaching President Trump. In mid-December, that number dropped to 77 percent. The network's political director, David Chalian, presented the findings.
The poll also revealed that overall support for impeachment is now in the minority at 45 percent, and those opposed at 47 percent.
Chalian noted that perhaps the numbers have dropped because Americans have forgotten about the "damning evidence" that was presented to them last month. Since then it's been "political warfare."
His colleague didn't believe it at all.
"I don't believe that poll for one second," said legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin, jumping in. "It's just - I don't believe it. It makes no sense that that number would change like that."
The pollster defended their findings, to which Toobin replied, "sometimes polls are wrong and, David, that poll is wrong."
"Just because I said so, okay?" he added.
Unfortunately for Jeff, it's a trend.
A USA Today poll found that 56 percent of voters now oppose impeachment, with independents opposing by double digits, while a Quinnipiac poll this week found a majority of voters opposed to impeachment, with independents opposing impeachment by 22 points.
Voters' exhaustion with impeachment is apparent in town halls too, especially the ones featuring vulnerable Democrats in Trump districts. For every constituent that stood to applaud Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-NY) at her town hall after she announced she's a "yes" vote, there were plenty more who heckled her. In Oklahoma, voters told Democratic Rep. Kendra Horn they were "mad as hell."
Contrary to what Toobin claims, it all does "make sense." The Democrats have failed to present us with fact witnesses related to the whistleblower complaint. Instead, they've relied on rumors and hearsay to justify impeachment. One of their last hearings, for goodness' sake, consisted of three liberal law professors who clearly didn't like the president. One of the witnesses, Pamela Karlan, even strangely referenced Trump's 13-year-old son Barron in her critique.
But here we are, on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, just hours away now from Democrats impeaching President Trump on two counts, the very vague "abuse of power" and "obstruction of Congress."
Anyone who still supports the Democrats has a criminal heart.
Policy disagreement from self important career bureaucrats who’s role is not to make policy, is not damning evidence of anything except progress against past failing policies.
The attitude reminds me a lot of the 2016 election - its how and why they lost.
CNN "ANALysts" have a hard time accepting the results of one plus one equaling two, but that's why they're on CNN.
How did we miss the damning evidence? What was it?
You are so right! That is an incredible statement. Really makes you think.
The lies and political propaganda of the left invented out of thin air is not evidence.
The left has an impeachment in search of a crime.
Demanding due process in the courts is not obstructing congress.
The left needs to take a long hike off of a short pier.
Anyone who has been around here long enough will recall Toobin used to come to FR and ask for help in doing his investigative homework.
He had his @$$ handed to him.
Do these seditious nitwits mean the “damning evidence” that they lie 24/7?
“Chalian noted that perhaps the numbers have dropped because Americans have forgotten about the “damning evidence” that was presented to them last month. Since then it’s been “political warfare.” “
Forgot it? Hell I still haven’t heard any evidence as of yet, other than the opinions of some butt hurt former gov’t leeches.
The pollster defended their findings, to which Toobin replied, “sometimes polls are wrong and, David, that poll is wrong.”
“Just because I said so, okay?” he added.

Toobin, having grown up in a liberal bubble, has never had to defend what he says. And now he can’t.
