Richard Jewell Posts Worst Wide Opening for Clint Eastwood With Just $4.7 Million
Richard Jewell was a passion project for Clint Eastwood, but this weekend it became the Hollywood legends worst wide opening weekend in his directorial career with just $4.7 million.
Released by Warner Bros. on 2,502 screens, Richard Jewell was projected by trackers to earn a $9-10 million opening this weekend instead, it is opening to half that amount. To find a wide release that low in Eastwoods career, you have to go all the way back to 1997, when Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil grossed a $5.2 million opening.

I liked it.
Christmas time. Doesn’t surprise me. It was a great movie.
We’re going to see it tonight then.
I’ll be buying it...4K if available, bluray if not.
Ill see it like I see every movie for the last decade . On my 60 tv.
I might consider seeing a high tech special effects movie in the theatre. But nothing I see out There qualifies.
I havent seen it yet, but planning to see it this week.
As soon as I saw it I figured “Yep. Destroy the messenger.” I wonder what the real figures are and if they matter?
We loved it. We did attend the very first showing on the first day of the movie, and theater was almost empty. But it was the middle of a work day. I expect attendance will pick up this week. I figure this article is meant to encourage people to stay away.
When the FBI asked Jewell if he was a member of any organization, he said he was a Baptist. That got a big laugh here in TN!
“I wonder if this is fake news in an attempt to kill the picture”
Numbers dot com which tracks movies is not biased.
Face it, 99% of America really has no interest in this type of movie.
As soon as I saw it (The headline).
Weekend? Are Sunday ticket sales not considered part of Hollywood’s “weekend?”
Yes, I wonder why they opened so close to Christmas, not exactly a holiday spirit film.
Most people only go to the movies when they’re taking their kid to some kiddie movie, that’s how I roll. Hopefully the movie will pick up in video sales, that’s a lot more of a trend these days. I’d rather rent a movie off Amazon Prime for $6 and buy treats for another $10 than spend $50 to sit with a bunch of people, eat the $8 popcorn, and hope people behave.

They track Thursday-Saturday sales.
I’ll wait till it comes out on DVD or somewhere else. I hate going to the movies and paying an arm and a leg for admission and snacks. I haven’t been to movie in at least a decade.
#fakenews
we are planning to see it but are in the throes of rennovating a duplex and the heating season.
The movie studio did not buy enough TV commercials for the film.
Great acting and direction. Everyone needs to go see it or movies like this will no longer be produced.
