Tragic Barnard College freshman Tessa Majors was allegedly in Morningside Park to buy marijuana when she was fatally stabbed by a group of teenage robbers, the head of the NYPD sergeants union claimed on Sunday.
What I am understanding is that [Majors] was in the park to buy marijuana, Sergeants Benevolent Association president Ed Mullins told radio host John Catsimatidis on his AM 970 show, The Cats Roundtable.
Police sources confirmed to The Post that they are investigating that angle, based on claims from a college friend of Majors.
A friend of the victim claimed to detectives that the 18-year-old Virginia native and musician told the pal she was headed to the Upper Manhattan park to buy pot Wednesday evening, sources said.
Majors was later found fatally stabbed on stairs near West 116th Street and Morningside Drive. Her bag was gone.

I thought I saw something about 1AM. I guess i didn’t.
Maybe. Why a young girl needs street cred it beyond me. I went to college in Manhattan. All I wanted was a date to the Sadie Hawkins dance.
This is why is should be legal and you can just go into a store and buy it
Parents may have had that long talk with her, but teenagers don’t listen.
Parents must be devastated.
[I think the police are simply saying here that there are certain places that will get certain people into trouble if they go there. Young white girl going alone to bad part of town to purchase drugs is almost a guarantee of a robbery and/or murder. Sad, perhaps, but true. ]
If pot was legal she wouldn’t be dead, would she?
This is upper Manhattan. The park is adjacent to her school and next to Mt. Sinai. Not the mecca of crime, nor a bad part of town.
As I’ve said, I went to college at 17 in New York City. If you think I walked into city parks after dark, think again.
Beyond me as well
What she was doing is irrelevant to her killing by these savages.
It’ll soon be legal everywhere so look for the crime rate to go down...
The venue didn’t kill her, the perps did.
And I don’t think she’d’ve encountered into them in a library or a church.
“Seems to me the police union guy was blaming the victim.”
People who make bad decisions in life need to be blamed and held accountable to their actions, even murder victims. Maybe others will learn from her mistake.
..and no way in any way am I taking anything from the thugs her killed her.
She was murdered at around 5:30 pm.
I'm the biggest coward on earth and I'm no expert on NYC but to me any part of Manhattan that's north of 110th Street is "a bad part of town"...particularly after dark.
He said the kids literally ORDER weed over SnapChat and go out to the car to get it, like UberEats.
He can't believe that some WASPy bumpkin from Charlottesville went into one of the most dangerous parks in NYC to get weed, when any number of guys in her dorm would have gladly gotten it for her, if only in hopes of getting a date.
[No, but it sends a message, and alerts others like her that it’s dangerous to be roaming the streets and parks of New York at night in pursuit of whatever good time you’re looking for. Kids think their invincible. They always think it won’t happen to them...that this kind of stuff happens to other people. It doesn’t hurt to give them a “wake-up” call on how easy it is to lose your life for the dumbest reasons. ]

It is dark at 5:30.
in before the pot people flood into this thread and use the dead girl as an argument for legalizing pot.
