most of Scotland on the dole and heavily dependent on England for their economic welfare...
Scotland produces 80% of the the oil in the U.K.
Scotland will be fine.
It’s not Scotland’s oil until the Crown cedes the oceanic property and rights to Scotland. Until then, it’s British oil. That same British oil that not only keeps the wheels turning in London, but supplies the revenue that benefits the entire Commonwealth. IF Scotland wants autonomy, build the wall quickly and have at it. But the sea and its resources belong to England and always will as a matter of essential national security.
Scotland ought to be fine - however the oil revenue wouldn’t make up for the loss in English tax money.
Also: if Scotland secedes (and I wish they would, and I wish them well) - there is an excellent chance that the Shetlands would secede from Scotland.
This is important as the Shetlands, not Scotland, would have title to the oil.
Not at $55 a barrel.
If Scotland, with one of the most left-wing electorates on earth, adopts full-blown socialism, its oil reserves will be about as useful as Venezuela's.
