The fallout from the Conservative Party's massive win in the British elections continues. It's washed ashore in America, as the far left is fearful that the results do not bode well for the eventual Democratic candidate against Donald Trump.
But of more immediate concern to the British is what is happening in Scotland as a result of the election. The separatist Scottish National Party destroyed the Conservatives as the Tories now hold only one seat. This has emboldened the SNP to prepare to call for a second referendum on independence.
The first referendum in 2014 was fairly close with those voting against independence winning 55-45. But the Scots are strong supporters of the EU, voting 62-38 to Remain. And with Brexit now assured by Johnson's election and the SNP in such a strong position politically, it's an open question whether Boris Johnson will be the last prime minister of a truly "United" Kingdom.

SOCIALISTS are bad..
Denied.
Firstly, they just had a referendum a few years ago. They need to wait for several decades before they have another. The UK government has no obligation whatsoever to allow a referendum. That they did allow one shows how remarkably civilized they were about it. Very few other countries would have allowed a free and fair democratic vote on the issue.
Secondly, the Scots voted against independence and according to polls, even more of them are against independence now than voted for it last time.
Scotland will harm itself greatly if it leaves the UK. The SNP does not give a damn about the harm they will inflict on Scotland. They are leftists consumed with lust for power.
That’s the other issue. If Scotland were to secede from the UK, Labour would be utterly finished. England would be better off. Scotland is a net recipient and its not that close.
The Tories still hold 6 ridings and SNP still did not get a majority of the Scottish vote. It secured only 45%.
A second independence referendum is still aways off.
Scotland ought to be fine - however the oil revenue wouldn’t make up for the loss in English tax money.
Also: if Scotland secedes (and I wish they would, and I wish them well) - there is an excellent chance that the Shetlands would secede from Scotland.
This is important as the Shetlands, not Scotland, would have title to the oil.
Go for it, turkeys.
Boy this is a bad article. It gets multiple things wrong:
The Tories have 6 seats (25% of the vote) not 1.
The SNP won 48 seats (45% of the vote)
The Liberal Democrats 4 (9.5% of the vote)
Labour has 1 (18.1% of the vote)
Due to first past the post, the SNP won a lot of seats with pluralities. The Unionist vote is still a majority, meaningless in General Election, critical in a referendum.

Also, several SNP candidates ran a keep theTories out campaign saying they would not push for independence, which SNP First Minister Nicola Sturgeon promptly ignored.
Johnson is on record opposing a Section 30 Order to give the Scottish Parliament the authority to hold Indy Ref 2. He cant postpone it forever, but might be able to delay until after the May 2021 Scottish Parliament elections, when Sturgeon and the SNP will have to defend their abysmal record in actually running Scotland.
Not to mention the rape trial of former SNP Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond in January. The SNP leadership, including Nicola Sturgeon apparently were aware of or turned a blind eye to the fact that Salmond was a sexual predator.
Its OK.
The EU needs another basket case teeming with drug addicts and refugees. Im sure they will welcome the Peoples Republic of Scotland with open arms.
Prediction: The EU will not exist in its present form in 15 years.
Well said. We only have to look at Spain vs Catalonia.
The best part of Scotland moved West a long time ago.
The English would be glad to see them get off Londons welfare teat.
Loss of 59 MPs wouldnt be missed.
I’ve been puzzled for years as to why Westminster opposes Scottish independence. Ditch ‘em.
The six counties will join the Republic within five years.
The Protestants are fearful of Catholic domination. It will happen when the six northern Irish counties have a Catholic majority.
If so, they haven't been paying much attention lately. I know they've got history ... my mother is from Northern Ireland ... but Catholicism is on the skids in the Republic of Ireland. An island-wide Evangelical revival would be a big improvement over the current trend.
Some are remembering, my 30-something buddy was against Brexit but after seeing the clown show he now can’t wait to get out of the EU and then independent of England.
