Here is what I understand is the reason for them NOT going full trial.

They are already going to exonerate President Trump so if they start calling witnesses then Chucky Schumky calls his witnesses and he could just keep calling and calling and keep this trial going on for a VERY LONG time. If that happens then nothing more gets done in the Senate because this would take up all their time. No more voting in judges etc.
