I would really appreciate an answer to whether the dims could impeach and then hold up the trial in the Senate.
I really am hoping that they wouldn’t be able to do that.
Mr. Publius do you know?

Your question is imprecise.
The House impeaches by a simple majority vote. The Senate tries the case and requires a two thirds vote for conviction and removal. Anything less than that is an acquittal.
Once the House votes to impeach, everything then shifts to the Senate. At that point, Sen. McConnell is in charge. The Senate Democrats are "jurors" along with Senate Republicans, but they have no other power. Chief Justice Roberts presides.

Of course if democrats drag out the impeachment hearing and don't vote on it until mid summer or later a speedy trial becomes a moot point .
Imagine republicans having to run an impeachment trial in the final moths of a presidential campaign!
Heck - that may very well be Pelosi's plan after all!

1984 Ping List
Hi, I was just curious if anybody is interested in getting started reading 1984 the beginning of next year?
I think last we spoke about this we were discussing whether to do it in this thread or to create another one. I thought we had decided to leave it in the Trump train thread, just to keep it informal. Don't want anybody to expect the level of expertise that the freeper book club threads have. I'm vaguely remembering we had decided to start it on Saturdays, when the thread is more quiet, and therefore it won't interrupt any pressing news.
A second option is we can put it over on the prepper read that I have revived after my long absence. I think it would be appropriate either place. That way the Trump train threads are kept as they are, and sadly there is very little activity over on the prepper thread. So it wouldn't encumber anybody over there.
If we start the beginning of January this will give everyone about a month to procure a copy. Some nice person had listed the sites of where the book could be downloaded from as well. Maybe they'll see this post and do it again :-)
If anybody wants to reply to the group, here is the list:
