Bernie Sanders urged men to become more involved in abortion advocacy Wednesday during the Democratic presidential debate in Georgia.
A senator from Vermont, Sanders has a 100-percent pro-abortion voting record, including a recent vote against a bill to protect newborns from infanticide.
The debate moderators asked the candidates several questions about abortion Wednesday night. Following up on comments made by fellow pro-abortion candidate Amy Klobuchar, Sanders insisted that Americans must support women by allowing them to abort their unborn babies for any reason up to birth.
“Amy mentioned that women feel strongly on it. Well, let me just tell you that if there’s ever a time in American history where the men of this country must stand with the women, this is the moment,” Sanders said.
He also tried to portray conservatives as hypocrites for wanting a small government that protects every human life, including unborn babies from abortion.
“And I get very tired, very tired of hearing the hypocrisy from conservatives who say, ‘Get the government off our backs, we want small government.’ Well, if you want to get the government out of the backs of the American people, then understand that it is women who control their own bodies, not politicians,” Sanders continued.
After the debate, Planned Parenthood praised Sanders on Twitter.
“We need more of this: ‘If there’s ever a time in American history when the men of this country must stand with the women, this is the moment,’” Planned Parenthood posted Wednesday night. In October, the billion-dollar abortion chain announced a $45 million election budget for 2020 to defeat President Donald Trump and pro-life candidates.
Sanders’ views on abortion are among the most radical of all the presidential candidates, though all the top contenders support unrestricted taxpayer-funded abortions up to birth. In September during the CNN climate town hall, Sanders went further by arguing for more abortions as a population control measure.
An audience member told Sanders that “the planet cannot sustain this growth” and “empowering women and educating everyone” on curbing the population seems “reasonable.” Sanders answered that he supports women being able to “control their own bodies” and have abortions.
“The answer is yes and the answer has everything to do with the fact that women, in the United States of America, by the way, have a right to control their own bodies and make reproductive decisions,” he said.
In April, he also tried to justify his position allowing unborn babies to be aborted for any reason up to birth. Sanders told the Fox News town hall that late-term abortions are “okay” because they are “rare.”
In 2018, he voted against a bill to ban later term abortions — a bill that would have saved as many as 18,000 unborn babies from abortions every year. The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act would have banned abortions after 20 weeks when unborn babies are nearly fully formed and capable of feeling intense pain.
The DEMs changing the main narrative back to pandering to women. It’s their primary shot at winning in 2020.
