Students at the University of Oklahoma are working to remove the schools Boomer and Sooner nicknames out of concern that the words are offensive to Native Americans.
According to the OU Daily, the Undergraduate Student Congress met Nov. 12 to mandate a name change for the Sooner Freshman Council, citing the words boomer and sooner as offensive to the Native American community.

Maybe replace Boomer Sooner with Millennial Procrastinators. :)
This has gotta be satire.
That’s okay.
In retribution for this crime, today I’ll find some satisfying way to deliver a dose of reality to some easily triggered, entitle, aggressive snowflake. Maybe I’ll get one fired for incompetence. Yes, that’s what I’ll do. I know the perfect recipient.
It will give me the feeling of balance.
Nature finds a way.
“And Oklahoma is abbreviated OK...”
And the OK hand signal (thumb and forefinger together) is now considered a symbol of white supremacy. This insanity never seems to end.
I’m mostly Irish, and I find that Notre Dame logo to be highly offensive. /s
Btt
And how does Boomer Sooner affect American Indians? It is a name applied to settlers preparing for the land runs to claim unoccupied lands in OK, after the tribes had their allotments filled.
The Boomers were those who waited for the starting gun to make a dash for the lands, the Sooners were those who sneaked in ahead of time to try and claim the best lands. Those “Sooners” were then escorted off the lands by Army guards.
The race was such a mad house, a lottery system was later devised to appoint out the lands. My ancestors got their allotment just East of Hobart OK.
It is mostly paternalistic white Leftists who are virtue signalling. They do not care what the Indians think, and they are above asking those icky flyover peasants.
I remember in the 60's when anti-war (Vietnam) people tried to eliminate Auburn's WarEagle cry.
I just wonder how much longer Texas Tech will allows “Guns Up!”
And the Tennessee Volunteers which fought Santa Anna at the Alamo may have to change their name because it’s offensive to our neighbors to the south, who seem to like it here in the USA better than their native country.
You want to reeeally stir the pot? Tell them what the name “Oklahoma” means...
The only thing that might be offensive about the term Sooner is that it glorifies people who cheated (snuck in ahead of those who played by the rules and waited until the land rush officially started).
More specifically female, white liberals who grew up in upper-middle class families. They’re the only ones who have time to sit around and worry about this crap.
