Was this an officially sanctioned School field trip?

Do they permit such one on one events, as opposed to field trip for the entire class?

I just have a feeling, that some strings were pulled, and waivers of official policies granted, to allow a teacher to take a single student outside of school hours, to an event such as this.

I honestly don’t get the fascination with Michelle Obama, in general, but I can see a child being excited, if M.O. has been held up to her as an example of a great person. Besides, most people are excited to meet celebrities. I wouldn’t walk across the street to see either one of the Obamas, or any number of liberal celebrities, myself, but that’s just me.
