“Maybe that’s why so many people are still dying from benzo addictions.”
VA had me on benzos for nearly a year.
I don’t remember hardly any of it, but those who knew me assure me I was functional.
Getting off of them was the hardest thing I ever did. Bar none.
Over a 1 week period I tapered down, then went cold turkey. Thought I was going to die. Literally. The physical symptoms were simply overwhelming.
Whiskey helped. But...
I’ve seen a few women messed up by benzos. Several died at young ages. Very sad.
Something else that I saw. Some doctors suspect that benzodiazepines might be more dangerous for seniors—at least some.
“Over a 1 week period I tapered down”
Why a week? That’s too fast if you’ve been on them a year.
“Over a 1 week period I tapered down, then went cold turkey.”
Years ago I was able to cold turkey Librium, no problem, but more recently did a six-month taper of another prescription drug, non-benzo and non-opiate, but one that is notorious for discontinuation syndrome. Six months wasn’t excessively long.
can take up to two or three weeks to taper if one is one a high dose frequently.
What benzo and what dosage? If thats too personal, I understand. Just curious since they are somewhat widely prescribed.
