Mo'Nique is suing Netflix for discrimination, claiming she was only offered $500,000 for a stand-up series when Amy Schumer got $13million for hers.
The comedian filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday alleging that she was unfairly treated because of her race.
She claims that Netflix offered her just $500,000 in a 'talent fee' for a one-off, hour-long stand-up special in November 2017.
Amy Schumer, however, was initially offered $11million for a similarly formatted show and ended up getting $13million after negotiations.
She also cited the cases of male comedians including Ricky Gervais, Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle, all of whom were paid considerably more than her and Schumer.

My initial question as well, is who is Monique with an apostrophe? I’ve heard of Amy Schumer.
I must admit I don’t follow the stand up comedy people in the media, so don’t know the “pecking order”. Just saying, I’ve heard of Amy, and think offhand she is probably more well known and has more of a fan base than Monique with an apostrophe. And based on that, she would naturally command more money for her appearances.
Perhaps Monique with an apostrophe is full on communist, equality and all that.
I am confused. You are an entertainer. Someone wants to hire you and tell you what they are willing to pay. You have three choices, take the deal, turn down the deal, negotiate for a better deal.
I did not know there was a fourth option, sue because someone else got paid more.

And that explains the difference in pay, completely. Will Netflix stand up to Mo’Nique, and fight her accusations in court? Of course not. They will quietly settle with her. Which was her goal in the first place.
And this will embolden even more people to follow her example. Remember Netflix, what you subsidize you will get more of.
Obviously lacked the intelligence to say no to the offer. Easier to claim race because, that’s what they do
I hope the suit is successful. I want as much as the CEO because we are both employed by the same company so we should get the same amount.

Pardon me... I’ve seen and heard all of the above comedians on several occasions... Until this ‘news’... I had never heard of anybody named ‘Mo’Nique’.
Stars and television personalities are paid based on their appeal and star power... Mo’Nique has no appeal and no star power so she should be rather happy with the half million she received.
To be fair, would anyone have heard of Amy Schumer if not for whom her uncle (or cousin or whatever) is?
A lot of things go into these payment decisions. And getting on a senator’s good side is probably in the mix.
Her uncle isn’t a Democrat Senator.
Monique, and no, I am not CONFORMING by putting that stupid mark into her stupid name.

Mo’Nique is funnier than Amy Schumer and has a Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
She might have a point.
