~~~~~~~
Probably -- but, I'm going to spoil it: I'm going to do a deep study of the battle and surrounding events beforehand.
In particular, I'll study lots of maps, so I can create my own "mental movie" of all the ship and plane movements, ahead of time.
I just watched the docu on Midway-battles that changed the course of history. Done by a Brit and a pretty good job, although kinda an overview in ways.
Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js31XwYmeQg
Anyways, just to think, in 6 short months the USA came from being blindsided and losing all over the Pacific to sinking 4 carriers of the enemy, three of them in 5 minutes, and changing the power of the Pacific theater from Japan to the USA.
The Lord Almighty was with us in that one. A complete miracle with all the luck involved.
The special effects will definitely be upgraded. The action scenes will probably be as good as the Dunkirk movie’s were.
I don’t know, is Matt Damon or Ben Aflec in it? If either one of those guys are in it then it’s a NO.
I don’t buy either one of them in anything.
“The first movie ‘Midway’, made back in 1976, was ruined by a silly romantic subplot involving a young Navy pilot and a Japanese girl. So it will be interesting to see how Hollywood ruins the remake.”
They’ll replace any human interactions with over-the-top CGI.
"I’ll watch “Tora, Tora, Tora” a far superior film."
How, precisely, do you know that -- without even having seen, "Midway"?
If it _were_ a traditional, cell-animated “cartoon” of the battle, I’d go see it just to see what they did and maybe how they did it!
Isn’t casting Woody Harrelson as Admiral Nimitz tantamount to casting Pauly Shore as John D. Rockefeller?
I remember watching Tora Tora Tora with the family when I was in the first grade. My dad would read the subtitles when the Japs spoke and I was really into it. I could tell my dad was getting a kick out of reading the subtitles to me.
I think that older movie was “Tora, Tora, Tora,” not the 1976 version. Husband hates sappy movies unless a dog is involved.
At this point, I decide whether or not to see a movie based upon who is making money off of it.
No, because the trailers look like something as bad as that Pearl Harbor movie. Might see “1917” though.
How will the new one be different from the ‘77 version?
No Coral Sea-class angle-deck carriers standing in for the Enterprise, Hornet, and Yorktown. :)
I enjoyed the first version,especially in the beginning when the B-25’s were cranking up. The theater had surround sound. As our tradition,my daughter and I will see this version as her generation should to get the idea, if not totally accurate, the sacrifice that this nation suffered then. I have used similar movies as a vehicle for her to understand that sacrifice. Granted they weren't the most accurate but it raised her interest to further check the history.
See ya at the movies, first time in years LOL
I will probably watch THE PACIFIC instead. That is truly one of the best series on the war in the Pacific to never come out. Anyone here who has not seen this yet needs to do so before even thinking about this new movie.
