The armpits might not give an accurate answer.
For example, a woman who has had armpit surgery might not feel comfortable shaving.

Naomi Wolf is not your typical radical feminist. Among other things, she’s married to a man (a disabled US Army veteran, no less) and as far as I know is firmly heterosexual.
That could be why she takes care of her appearance, which IMO is pretty darn good for a woman of 56.
It is a shame that her head is so messed up inside.
