I’m posting blind so someone else may have posted this. I remember the Kennedy funeral as a kid. The thing he was on is a catafalque, a raised bier, box, or similar platform, often movable, that is used to support the casket, coffin, or body of the deceased during a Christian funeral or memorial service.
