There were many complaints about the methodology of that survey, so a couple of years ago the survey was redone with improved methodology.
The results shifted by less than 2%.
The term ‘Redskin’ isn’t about anyone’s skin color. It’s about the coloring applied to the skin of certain tribes warriors.
I’m not sure that any of those tribes inhabit Minnesota. Most of the peoples were in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Pennsylvania/NY area, and most prominently were part of the Five Civilized Tribes - whose representatives formally requested their state be named after them.
One of my coworkers is a Tribal Elder. A fervent Giants fan. He proudly wears his Redskins jacket pretty much everywhere. He’s hardly the only one I know.
Concerned white folks, ignorant of history, trying to erase all trace of Native Americans from common reference.
My suggestions for the name change. Since they won’t choose what many of us have been calling them for years, The Washington Foreskins I would like to suggest combining the names of two men who had major influence in DC. I would bring a mashup of their names to honor them. Long term Rep the late John David Dingell Jr and late DC. mayor Marion Shepilov Barry. The new name of the team would be;
The Washington Dingellbarrys
