The Minnesota Vikings will attempt to keep a winning streak alive Thursday night at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The Vikings play the Washington Redskins at 7:20 p.m. It's the first matchup between Kirk Cousins and his former team as well as with some former Vikings, including Adrian Peterson and Case Keenum.
Unfortunately for the Vikings, they will be without Adam Thielen who was hurt last week making a catch in the end zone.
Ahead of the game, there will be a march and rally to protest Washington's team name.
Thousands of people are expected to surround the stadium during the "Not Your Mascot" rally. Protesters say the Washington Redskins mascot is offense and degrading to Native Americans.
Thursday night's rally isn't the first time a protest like this has happened in the Twin Cities.
Five years ago, 4,000 people gathered outside of the Vikings football stadium, calling on Washington to change its name.
That march took place outside of TCF Bank Stadium. Protesters have been working with the Vikings to make sure the event ahead of Thursday night's game goes smoothly.
People supporting Washington's mascot are also expected to hold a counter-rally.
Redskins team owner Dan Snyder has spoken about the debate in the past. Snyder said the mascot would never change and that the nickname shows honor and respect for the tribes.
The Minnesota Vikings released the following statement regarding the rally:
The Minnesota Vikings recognize the sensitivity of this issue. Minnesota has a significant Native American population and our franchise has strong, positive relationships with several tribal nations and Native American leaders within the state.
We have maintained an ongoing and respectful dialogue with the Native American community, as well as with other state leaders, on this matter and continue to participate in conversations regarding tonight's game.
In terms of in-game elements, we are obligated as a member of the NFL to operate and market the game as we would any other Vikings home game.
We respect and support our local community voices having an opportunity to be heard. As with all of our games, our primary focus will be on providing a positive game day experience for Vikings fans. We look forward to continuing to work together to ensure that successful game experience.
The march will start at Peavey Park at 4 p.m., followed by a rally outside of the stadium at 5 p.m.
Organizers say more than 20 well-known national and local leaders will speak at the event.
Weak.
My old high school was Robert E. Lee.
Not only was the name changed, but the building was torn down. Must not have any racis symbols.
The perpetually offended white liberals are the ones complaining. Most of the injuns could not care less.

Jacksonville, FL?...............
Uh oh, we were the Ygnacio Valley Warriors back in 1976. I wonder if they still are?
No one cares about the Washington Redskins, so why would anyone care about the mascot?
The usual suspects in DC stopped pretending to be “offended” the the name once Snyder mentioned he was looking for a place to build a new stadium.
We played HS Football against “The Crusaders”! Wonder what they have now, “The Supine”?
Oh but it’s OK to make fun of Vikings ya betcha.
I’m Irish and personally that Notre Dame mascot greatly offends me.
That’s a relief! Maybe they were too busy fretting about the name “Mt. Diablo” to worry about the Warriors.
I vote that they drop the “d” from the middle. Then the name could be the “Reskins”, as in “don’t pronounce the ‘d’ in Redskins”.
Wash-ton Res-kins it is.
Next they will go after the "Washington" because he owned slaves.
Exactly.
I am surprised that it is still known as ‘Washington, D.C.’.
Waiting for the Robert E. Lee
Al Jolson
Way down on the levee in old Alabamy
There's daddy and mammy, there's Efran and Sammy
On a moonlight night you can find them all
While they are waiting the banjos are syncopating
What's that they're saying, what's that they're saying
Well while they keep playing I'm humming and swaying
It's the good ship Robert E. Lee that's come to carry the cotton away
Watch them shuffle along, See them shuffle along
Oh take your best gal, real pal go down to the levee
I said the levee
Join the shuffling throng, Hear the music and song
It's simply great mate waiting on the levee
Waiting for the Robert E. Lee
Whistles are blowing smokestacks are showing
The ropes they are throwing, excuse me I'm going
To the place where all is harmonious
Even the preacher they say is the dancing teacher
Have you been down there, say were you around there
If you ever go there you'll always be found there
Why doggone, here comes my baby on the good ship Robert E. Lee
Watch them shuffle along, See them shuffle along
(or alt: Hear that music and song)
Oh take your best gal your real pal go down to the levee
I said the levee
Join the shuffling throng, Hear the music and song
It's simply great mate waiting on the levee
Waiting for the Robert E. Lee

I guess I don't blame the marchers. I'd hate to have a team named as "Washington" these days.
