Eddie Van Halen was at Tool's show in LA this week when he was approached by a fan who had no idea he was speaking with a guitar great...

I’m a child of the 90’s too from Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Primus et al. I saw Tool only once I think for Lolapalooza and they didnt exactly blew me away. But to each his own..
How much did they have to pay her?
Well, he does use a drill for the “Poundcake” intro, but in this case it was to see Tool the band.
Damn! If I seen that wandering around I might put in a “Call For Service” from the local cop shop.
“Yeah ... there’s this guy wandering around... He looks sorta like Charles Manson, can’t miss him. No, I don’t know him. Ok, thanks.”
A few years ago Bob Dylan was performing a concert somewhere and a few hours before the show was walking around alone checking some house out with a “For Sale” sign iirc, during a thunderstorm, he was peeking in a window and somebody called the fuzz. He had no ID or anything like that. So somebody calls the cops, saying some weird guy in a raincoat is peeking into windows.
Some cop is sent out, and she has no idea. “Who are you?” “Bob Dylan”. “Got any ID?” Etc. Much hilarity ensues. LOL.
I’m more of a 70’s prog rocker, started playing bass as Yes was peaking in the early to mid ‘70s and learned every Rush tune up until they went whacko on synths. I found Tool to be one of the few post-grunge bands with chops, but then by the 90’s I was pretty much over trying to ‘make it’ as a musician and mostly listening to jazz (although still playing any gig that came my way, any genre).
not completely my cup of tea, more of a Snarky Puppy guy these days, but props for coming out with a seriously good album 13 years(?) after the last one.
The article has a picture of Ed, looking hale and hearty, though where’s the pic he took referenced in the article itself?
Tool Show...
Snap On?
Craftsman?
Harbor Freight?
“I was pretty much over trying to make it as a musician and mostly listening to jazz (although still playing any gig that came my way, any genre).”
Reminds me of one of my close friends. He “switched” to jazz or cool music, and he had the largest collection of bootleg Metallica albums and tapes..and he gave it away. I was pissed because he didnt tell me and I would have bought them.
I played Van Halen in the 70’vand 80’s as a kid on vinyl and cassette until they warped out and I had to order more on Columbia House. I miss those days.
Good thing I read the story, I thought this was a convention hosted by Home Depot.........
Actually, the article I saw said Tool Show. I’m thinking it’s full of all these seniors buying tools.
What are friggin Doofus. Guy doesn’t realize it was Eddie Van Halen, probably even AFTER they told him it was Eddie Van Halen.
This is a more accurate juxtaposition.
VanHalen was the Local Party band when I was in High School
Looks like Eddie sucked his thumb when he was a laddie.
Whos that? Sting? Pretty funny. I dont always recognize people. I could see doing something that embarrassing.
Dave Grohl did a documentary film about “Sound City” - the iconic studio in Van Nuys. Incredible history that included Nirvana recording their album - to where Lindsey Buckingham met Mick Fleetwood by accident.
The studio was famous for having an incredible sound for drums and THE console, the Neve that was considered to be THE State-Of-The-Art in sound quality.
When the studio closed, Dave Grohl bought the Neve and installed in his home studio. He recorded an album featuring artists that recorded at Studio City (Tom Petty, etc) as well as Paul McCartney who “just happened: to drop by.
GREAT documentary if you get a chance to watch it.
I’m not sure I’d trust that guy with my camera.
He now has short hair and looks healthy...
