If a soundbite winds up being the highlight of a quarterback's night, that clearly means he didn't have a good night.
When a mic'd up Sam Darnold was caught saying, "I'm seeing ghosts," down 24-0 in the first half of Monday night's contest against the New England Patriots, it was evident that things were somehow going to get worse for the New York Jets and their star QB.
And by the time the final whistle blew on the brutal 33-0 loss to the undefeated Patriots, those suspicions had been confirmed: Darnold went 11-of-32 for a career-low 86 yards, was sacked once for a loss of 13 yards and tied a career-high with four interceptions against the NFL's best defense. An abysmal box score for any QB, but perhaps an even more discouraging one for a guy in his second game back from illness.

The ghost of Hoffa?
Jets were still riding high on the fumes of the win against the Cowboys the week before. Looks like they were taken down by some serious AA musket fire.
Johnson needs to sell this team.
The Jets never stood a ghost of a chance. NE’s D is just plain scary.
The Pats’ D is so good this year, nobody even thinks about Tom Brady, all he did was 31-45, 249 YDS, 1 TD.
As it stands now it looks like it will be Brady vs Garoppolo in the Super Bowl.
Funny...one of the criticisms of Brady is that he sees “ghosts” when under protracted pressure. Not sure Darnold and Brady see the same thing there.
Yeah, the ghost of his career..............
Do USC quarterbacks ever pan out these days?
Or Rodgers.............
Niners defense is pretty solid too. Both the Pats and Niners got shutouts this weekend.
That one silly comment is going to haunt this guy forever!
Carson Palmer, Pat Haden, and even they weren’t all that great.
But, NE has a very significant flaw. Their OL is like Swiss Cheese.
NE’s saving grace in that potential match-up is Garropolo has turned out to simply another mediocre QB. Indy, got the best of Brady’s two previous back-ups and didn’t pay anything close to what SF paid.
Hope they make it. Anybody but Rodgers...............
I don’t care if those elitist, commie, useful idiot, wife beaters, see ghosts
I’m stunned that of all of the QBs that played at UF, Jacoby Brissette is having the best NFL career of them all (and he transferred)
Near rookie QB, coming off illness, against Belichick and the best defense in the NFL - Offensive coordinator should have been super cautious - had him throwing only screen passes and quick outs to the sidelines - NOTHING downfield more than 10 yards.
Sam might not have been himself last night—he is recovering from mononucleosis.
But, he’s only a second year player, and the Patriots defense had him flustered.
