You can still buy cap guns. Bought some for my grandsons a few years ago. But they are junk and their construction is nothing like that of the cap guns my brothers played with.
Yep they are junk. Got my son one of those junk orange clear plastic thing when he was young. It broke in a day or two. Then I let him have my old hubley. He took good care of it. It also looks real (no orange tip)and I love being able to spin it, fire it and blow the smoke from the barrel. Ah the finer things in life.
You can still order cap [and ball] firearms via the mail, without any regulation. The cap gun actually evolved from those. I have a pair of 1858 New Army Remingtons (revolvers) and a .50 cal carbine.
I bought two cap guns from the sixties at a thrift shop about a month ago. My wife and I like to go junk shopping in Savannah. We went in a thrift store and I saw these two old metal cap guns in nice leather holsters. 5 bucks a piece. I snapped them up. The lady at the counter said they had been there 5 minutes. She said she should have priced them higher.
Maybe one day I'll have grandkids.
