A Los Angeles gang member received a prison sentence of more than five-and-a-half centuries Thursday for shooting a Los Angeles Police Department SWAT officer, who was saved by his helmet, and wounding a police K-9 during a series of shootouts in 2017, authorities said.
Jose Afredo Rauda, 36, was convicted earlier this month of 12 counts of attempted murder on a peace officer, 19 counts of assault with a firearm on a peace officer, four counts of assault with a firearm and once count of assault on a police animal, shooting at an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office.
He returned to Los Angeles County Superior Court for sentencing on Thursday, where he received a prison term of 553 years and 8 months to life, prosecutors said in a written statement.
Raudas criminal history in Los Angeles County dates back to 2004, when he was convicted of auto theft and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun, Los Angeles County Superior Court records show. He was convicted of vandalism and providing a false identity to police in 2007; robbery in 2012; violating a court order, being a felon in possession of a gun and vandalism in 2011; and giving a false identity to police in 2017

Amber Guyger got 10 years and a hug from the judge.
Some animals are more equal than others.
Literal LOL
If they had sentencing reform where the convicted does 80% of their sentence minimum we wouldn’t have to hand down such ludicrous sentences.

It deters at least one person- the headless guy. That’s a win-win if you ask me.

Where in the prison do they store these corpses after they die? And for another 450 years!
i would hate to be his cell mate after just a fifth of his sentence...
he’s not too chatty, but he sure is creepy.
“Wanna stop this crap? There should be public beheadings of these murderous bastards.”
Biohazard. Which also exists with a firing squad. Even a simple stoning can have Biohazard ramifications.
Remedy, either a nitrogen chamber, which drug companies have absolutely no way to stop the manufacturer of drugs used for execution as they have done in the past.
However to forgo the cost of building such a chamber why not a simple strangulation with a short piece of rope or a garrote type of a device somewhat similar to what the Spaniards used.
He must be a citizen. If he were an illegal he would have been released and gotten a hug from a California judge already.
He’ll be out in 230 years.
Now we know just how biased judicial officials are. When gooberment officials break the law, it is a slap on the wrist. When a gooberment official is harmed, the sentencing is unconscionably horrific.
I wouldn't want to be his future cell mates over the next 500+ years. That's gonna stink.
In lefty-land California, I would be surprised if the perp got 530 years for wounding the dog, and 3 years for shooting cops.
Nah. Just set him free after you spread the word in his hood that he dropped the dime on the local El Jefe. His homies will take care of him without costing the taxpayers a dime.
True but it seems that no matter how many people they behead new killers step forward to fill the void.
“I met one brother. His name was J-Bone. Mother..... could lift weights. He was in charge. Muscles every-mother.......-where.
He was doing a sentence Triple Life. How in the .... do you do Triple Life? I mean. That mean if he die and come back he got to go to the penitentiary. Right? Theyll say, F... kindergarten. Get your little ass back in the penitentiary. Mother...... You know what you did last time you was here.

Which in California prison time means he'll be out in about 3 months due to "overcrowding" and back on the streets, fully armed and ready to do it again.
“The criminal nitwit should be thrown into a wood chipper”
Feet first.
Excellent question! This is a great example of "equal justice before the law"... NOT!
BTW, this thug DOES deserve jail time for attempted murder.
He could be out in 310 years with good behavior.
What’s missing here?
“Raudas criminal history in Los Angeles County dates back to 2004, when he was convicted of auto theft and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun, .....”
He must have other criminal history pre-dating 2004 if he, at that time, had already been a convicted felon. Where was it, and what was it for? Don’t reporters do any digging any more?
