She stole a bag full of merchandise. Why isn’t she charged with theft?

Maybe the stuff in the bag was just misdemeanor stuff. Maybe what they charged her with is some type of felony?

Computerized self checkout has created a whole new additional crime to be charged with on top or instead of shoplifting. I bet it carries much stiffer consequences than shoplifting.

because she did not pass the last point of sale before exiting the store ~~ she was still at the point of sale when she was caught committing the fraud on the register
