"The fact that socialists are openly running for public office in America — that socialists actually hold public office in Congress — should serve as enough wakeup call that the nation’s moral and political compasses are skewed, in dire need of correcting."

Exactly. Remove govt involvement in education.

Home school.

“Exactly”? You miss the point entirely. Cowering in your homes, raising your kids in a bubble, is EXACTLY what got us where we are.

This fight must be fought in won in the public schools.

Home schooled children are going to be outvoted 10 to 1 at the ballot box if you don’t stand and fight.

> To take back the schools in the long term, one must get rid of the communists in universities and colleges who are indoctrinating teachers. <

Right. And a good - and doable - first step would be to get rid of education degrees. Reily suggested that in his post #18.

Some degrees are useless. A degree in 14th century French poetry, for example. But education degrees are worse than useless. They are actually harmful.

As I noted elsewhere, I spent many years teaching in urban public high schools. The good administrators there almost always had real undergraduate degrees. Maybe a degree in business or in math. The bad administrators almost always had undergraduate degrees in education. Their heads were filled with mush.

So if you wanna teach, you should first have to get a degree in your subject. And then take a few teaching classes on the side, so you can learn the best ways to present your material.

Way too many Christian parents have taken their kids out of public schools, instead of standing up against the teachers and school boards that push the “Progressive” agenda!
Reminiscent of the warning offered by Jesus in His parable about the unoccupied room from which swept an evil spirit departed (Matthew 12:44-45).

Disagree!

The unions are the biggest defenders of maintaining the “status quo” over who can teach & who can’t. They are part of maintaining the “fiction” of the need for “education degree” as the entrance requirement for teaching. They defend and use college departments of education to give “pseudo-intellectual” justification for maintaining an education career as a medieval-style guild! Most “college of education” teaching theories are the modern equivalent of using the “bumps on one’s head” to determine IQ, personality and destiny. Mankind has been “teaching” since the beginning, its not a “deep dark secret”! The latest whiz-bang idea, electronic toy & “psycho-babble” excuse for bad behavior doesn’t improve things.

Pre-Nixon days NEA/AFT (Unions) campaigned relentlessly for a federal department of education. Knowing full well that this would be their siphon into a continuous money flow bypassing all those annoying things like parents, school boards **, state legislatures, etc.

School boards ** - Later the unions captured them by making sure that their well-funded “candidates” ran.

Always remember the famous 1970s-1980s quote from the AFT Prez head - paraphrasing “If students paid union dues we would be worried about students”!

"45 Communist Goals For America" entered into the Congressional record in 1963. Not only did America's enemies succeed in every point, but they told us what they were going to do. But by '63, they had already infiltrated America and they knew it.

A part of the list: 15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

Through years & years of being a student I have discovered you do this by being organized! ...Well DuH!

1. Summary: Tell me what you are going to teach me\tell me.
2. Teach me\Tell me!
3. Summary: Tell me what you taught me\told me.

Ok all who read this, are now be duly certified to teach!
I will take payment in unmarked bills to be left behind the hollow tree!

This is where it really starts. As Lenin once said...”Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” The leftists know this and that’s why they have spent the last 60 years subverting our entire educational system.

NOPE, NOT TRUE!

We've made it clear the Teacher's Union is the enemy and won the entire slate of School Board members.

Problem is "we" squandered that opportunity with bad decisions and are now fighting to get a seat on the board.

You can’t win by packing the school board or PTA.. you have to actually get conservatives in as teachers and administrators....

Period.

Conservative think tanks should be setting up funds and programs to encourage this career path.

> The unions are the biggest defenders of maintaining the “status quo” over who can teach & who can’t. <

That might be true at the national level. I have no idea what goes on there. My point is that teachers - and their unions - have no input on what is actually taught in the schools. That is decided by state functionaries and by local school board members.

Might some of those folks be listening to some union guy? I guess. But in my long working career I’ve never heard a single union leader say “We’ve got to quit teaching X and starting teaching Y.”

I agree with you that much of what is being taught in public schools is garbage. And I agree with you that things must change. But the culprits are not the teachers, or their unions. The culprits are higher up on the food chain.

Side story: Maybe 20 years ago our district decided to make American History an optional course. Instead of taking that once-required course, you could take African History or Asian History instead. Imagine that. An American student need not learn his own history!

The history teachers were outraged by this. But nobody listened to them. The union stayed neutral, as this was a management prerogative. So who should get the blame for this stupid decision? Not the teachers. Not the union. I’d say it’s 100% on the school board.

“...I’ve never heard a single union leader say “We’ve got to quit teaching X and starting teaching Y.” ....”

They don’t need to say it. Its being pushed at the national leadership level by their leadership (Who didn’t just appear “ex nihilo”! Somebody backed them!) I guarantee if someone (a state legislator maybe!) went after those state education bureaucracy positions or ran “independent” of the “education” establishment the unions would go after them like a big dog over a bone!

I am not blaming the teachers for the most part they are trapped between a rock and a hard place.

...who will nibble on the edges of statist educational tendencies, score a few wins, until the empire strikes back and leftists ride that horse in the other direction.

WWI trench warfare was ineffective and ran up the body count. We should eschew that strategy with public schools. Leave it be, let it implode and watch from the hills with your children safely in tow.

Communism, like the Delusional Lying Left, is actually a manifestation of the spirit of antichrist.

The spirit of antichrist knew it would win when, around 1900, people in America and around the world began to say, essentially, "Thanks God, we'll take from here" AKA "With all these gadget and the Industrial Revolution, we don't need God anymore."

But this didn't take God by surprise. Scripture prophesied this 2000 years ago and is what ushers in the End, soon to come:

[Y]ou say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked
Rev 3:17.

Cowering in your homes, raising your kids in a bubble, is EXACTLY what got us where we are.

You do not understand what "home schooling" is.

First, it is not "isolating". Homeschooled children are more publically minded that private schools. I know this from being active in the HS community since 1988. Also see the First Things article, "Private School is not Privatizing."

Homeschool children are more politically involved when compare to their govt school counterparts. They also relate more readily with many age groups, not simply their age-related peers.

Second, HS seriously impedes the state from "socializing" your children -- the biggest threat of gov't schools. The overwhelming precentage of children coming out of govt schools are good little socialists/communists. Look around. They may outvote HS'ers 10-to-1. So what? It's better than 100-to-1.

We will continue to erode the control gov't has on education. You can be with us. But if you are not, then you are part of the problem.

How do you plan to remove govt involvement in education and its deleterious effects?

1. Replace the school board with conservative warriors? How is that working for you?

2. Eliminatie the federal Department of Education? How’s that proceeding?

3. Change state constitutions to remove their involvement with education? Name one state that has done this.

4. Defeat bond measures that support public education? I’ve never seen one that failed. There may be some, but these typically pass and students still knock on my door and beg for additional funding. Where does the money go?

5. Change the administrative Structure of education? Monies intended for the classroom go to fund increasing administrative overhead.

I’d love to hear your ideas and successes.

As for me, we have chosen not to sacrifice our children to the godless beast who will turn them from us. To quote James Dobson: Values are caught not taught. To paraphrase the Bible: bad company corrupts good morals.

Too late to "take them back"...

Like a stage 4 cancer, only heroic surgery has a chance of restoring true education to the U.S.

Burn it all down... Let neighborhoods rebuild their neighborhood schools under the direct control of the neighborhood citizens...

The deliberate (and brilliant) tactic by the black-robed marxists successfully destroyed the public school system (with forced busing) and replaced it with centralized government indoctrination centers... A plan the marxists proposed in the late 1800's...

It also destroyed the former American concept of neighborhoods AND families...
