Possibly the best outcome out of a tragedy. The brother holds and forgives Amber, the jury (that some here on FR were claiming was biased) finds her guilty but gives her a sentence that both punished as well as considering it was likely a mistake, and the judge (that the same people here on FR were claiming would be harsh because she was a black woman about to sentence a white person) also came down to hug Amber, give her the Bible she uses, and tells Amber to read it every day for at least a month starting with John 3:16.
Best outcome out of a a truly bad situation.

I meant:
.... the jury (that some here on FR were claiming was biased) finds her guilty but gives her a sentence that both punished as well as ,considering it was likely a mistake, isnt as excessively harsh as it could have otherwise been ....

I'm confused about why they found her guilty of murder in the first degree.
Doesn't that mean "Premeditated Murder"?
Not saying that she isn't guilty in some degree, but she didn't set out to kill the man.

In her testimony she stated that when she shot at him, the intent was to kill him.
To: bigdaddy45
Yes I heard that, but that still doesn't mean it was premeditated.
She'll probably appeal it to second degree.

Really well stated. I’ve been arguing with a buddy about what is appropriate justice in this situation.
I also admire the Judge and her actions.

Makes me sad that despite the Jean family’s forgiveness there were protests from the usual cant be pleased folks.

We see so much of the depravity of the human heart when we follow the news.
But God re-makes hearts. He transforms a heart of stone into a tender human heart, He gives us transfusions of His blood, His grace.
It gives us the inspiration to say, "I believe in God."

I finally made myself watch the video. We can all learn so much from that young man. So much. He had EVERY reason to hate - and suspect if the tables were turned, and his brother has shot the cop by mistake, that the cops sibling likely wouldnt have hugged the brother. He had every reason to hate, but he chose to love. Its not even forgiveness - it is more of love than forgiveness.
I am totally floored, and I pray that the lady does find Christ, and that the young man has the best life ever. If there was ever a Fund Me for that young man thats the first one Id participate in.
