America's best cities to live Drugmakers lobby hard to preserve their pricing power Click to expand President Trump confirmed Tuesday that he withheld military aid from Ukraine, saying he did so over his concerns that the United States was contributing more to Ukraine than European countries were.
“My complaint has always been, and I’d withhold again and I’ll continue to withhold until such time as Europe and other nations contribute to Ukraine because they’re not doing it,” Trump told reporters at the United Nations General Assembly.
Trump was responding to reporting by The Washington Post that Trump told his acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney to hold back almost $400 million in military aid for at least a week before Trump spoke to the Ukrainian president.

On that call, Trump allegedly asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Hunter Biden, the son of former vice president and possible 2020 opponent, Joe Biden, according to an intelligence official whistleblower who reported the call to the intelligence agency inspector general. The Trump administration has blocked Congress from seeing the complaint.
Trump has suggested he did bring up Biden during the call, but has dismissed allegations of anything untoward. He told reporters there would likely be a readout of the call released.
“It’s nonsense,” Trump said. “When you see the call, when you see the readout of the call, which I assume you’ll see at some point, that call was perfect, it couldn’t have been nicer.”
Trump repeated his contention that Biden is the one who should be investigated. The president and his allies have accused Biden of pressuring Ukraine in 2016 to fire its top prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, to benefit his son.

he really does have them in a bind...this is gonna really put the spotlight on Biden and his kid. Will they throw ol Joe under the bus just to impeach Trump...thing is, more moderate dems are coming out for impeachment cuz they know Trumps attack on Biden will be devastating and they think Biden is their best chance to beat Trump, yet impeachment will still be bad for Joe. It was enough to get appointment of a Special Counsel, and legal process has a higher standard than a Congressional process does.
He always waits to fund. He didn’t say he withheld the money for not investigating Bide.
But later in the day, during a meeting with the Polish president, Trump denied that he told Zelensky that Ukraine could only have the military aid they were seeking if they investigated the Biden family.
"I put no pressure on them whatsoever. I could have. I think it would probably, possibly have been ok if I did. But I didn't. I didn't put any pressure on them whatsoever," Trump said.
"I did not make a statement that 'you have to do this or I'm not going to give you aid. I wouldn't do that. I wouldn't do that," he also said. "With that being said, what I want is — I want, you know, we're giving a lot of money away to Ukraine and other places. You want to see a country that's going to be not corrupt."
I just don't see him as changing his story. He withheld the aid, long before the phone call. I know the dems will see it just as you say, but I disagree.
I think he believes you don't give money to corrupt regimes, but that would be true for any regime, not JUST the Ukraine.
Having said that, I actually welcome impeachment. The Senate will not convict, and the act will only anger voters against the dems, since in the Senate trail, Trump can bring forth REAMS of evidence the media cannot hide. I think the dems try to drag it out until AFTER the elections.
