If they were all drone strikes the Patriot Missile system won’t do anything against drones.

Given the relative frequent use of drones, you would think that defenses would have been upgraded to take care of this possibility. Thanks for the info.
My understanding, such as it is, is that the anti-missile shield was all aimed southwards toward Yemen; it was not thought that Iran would be so bold as to launch a direct attack - apparently a flawed analysis.
It seems quite possible that Iran wants to promote a war with the US. Iran's economy is in terrible shape (US sanctions), and the Iranian people are extremely restless against the theocratic ruling regime. The thinking is that war with the US could unite the population of Iran in support of the Mullahs.
There is also the possibility (in the minds of the theocracy) that a destructive war could lure the 12th Madhi out of that well and establish world domination of Islam.
