OK, the wife and I are planning a week long vacation in early October. We're flying into Orlando, spending a few days there and then heading eastward and then north along the Atlantic Coast. I don't think we'll go much further than Saint Augustine.
Yeah, there's the obvious places to go - like Kennedy Space Center. Saint Augustine looks very interesting too. There's a few national parks I wanna check out along the way too. I'd even settle more good recommendations that are even a bit inland from the coast.
I'm up for anything in the way of recommendations - restaurants (yes, we're gonna stop at a Waffle House), attractions, parks (local, state and national), accommodations, etc.
I'd appreciate any ideas you can give me. Thank you!
I thought we did...Memory at our age.......Well.....LOL
Remembering what? LOL!
We went to the Fountain of Youth about 10 years ago. I drank from the fountain...it’s a lie.
I agree the Ritz on Amelia Island is very nice.
You remember that little gas station on the right about halfway from the base to Jax Beach??? The woman who owned it had her daughters out pumping gas in bikinis...A shipmate of mine married one of those girls...LOL
O’Steen’s St Augustine
Columbia is very good indeed
Probably got gas there for my RoadRunner a time or two. LOL!
Ron Jon Surf Shop, Cocoa Beach (my teenage kids made me stop there years ago )
St Augustine can be crowded but this time of year its likely not
Just drive A1A and see everything from Sebastian Inlet to Fernadina
Florida is crowded and congested. If you go there, you are just adding to the problem. There is, however, a little more room in the panhandle and north of Daytona Beach. More normal people as well.
Waffle House is good. However, I’ll say that like any other chains, some are superior to others. Kennedy Space Center is nice. I’ll hit a few beaches, too. Going to visit any theme parks Universal is better than Disney..
Wrong coast
Also on St Augustine Beach there’s Conehead’s Ice Cream and Sunset Grille. There’s an alligator farm in St Augustine that we liked too.
Its not that far of a drive!

Check crime stats of the places U wish visit....
With a crime rate of 64 per one thousand residents, Orlando has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities.
What was Rush doing on a beach in St. Augustine, with or without radio? :) /snark
My only advice is to go West. Not East. Have fun!
Visit New Smyrna Beach. It is the shark bite capital of America.
Café Coconut Cove in Melbourne Beach. Awesome mom and pop German food on the Indian River with beautiful sunsets. Been going there for 20 years, and it’s the best restaurant in Brevard County. —I have received no compensation for this endorsement...;)
