What would you suspect is their mission?
We’ve had ships in and out of the Gulf going on 50 years at least. Obama reduced the number in his last term, but we were still there.
I’m guessing - total guess - they are there to provide additional air defense for the Saudi’s.
My read is that after the refinery hit Trump told them that if they want to take care of business we’ll watch the back door...so...we provide air and defense cover to the Saudi peninsula while the Saudis do the force projection activities.
My reasons for thinking this are:
1) The Saudis have a good Air Force, but not enough to provide sufficient home protection while they are on the offensive and
2) Trump has been pushing everyone globally to take more of their own military action into their own hands...
The US isn’t going to be the global police for everyone anymore. Oh we won’t walk away from a fight, but we aren’t going to shed our precious blood for someone else’s problems when they need to step up themselves.
