Dokken was one of the biggest west coast hair metal bands of the 1980s with three multi-platinum albums between 1984 and 1987. George Lynch rivaled Eddie Van Halen as the genre's defining guitar players.
I know. I was one of those teenage white boy wannabe guitar slingers who idolized Lynch and is today, like practically every former Dokken fan, a 50-year old Trump voter
I’m 54 so I was both too young and too old for the west coast hair band scene - a little too young for the actual scene, but too old, mature and responsible to appreciate the juvenile-ness. MTV did a great job making people who liked ‘60’s/70’s FM rock music, look down on west coat hair bands.
It wasn’t until I watched “The Dirt” this year, that I finally saw the appeal, but I don’t think I missed anything other than a venereal disease.
I saw Dokken open for Judas Priest in the 80s. He was no match for Glenn Tipton and KK Downing.
