All of those things, except the polar bear pelts. That would more be the interest of his son. My gut says that he’s always thinking about the first paragraph of his post presidency bio. It’s probably going to say something about the House impeaching and the Senate not going along. And saying that he added x sq miles to the US of A would be a very nice touch in that first paragraph, and if he accomplished that, it WOULD be in the first paragraph. But to do that, he has to get not just another R Senate, but also an R House. Because he’ll probably lose the House again in the second half of his 2nd term. So the 2020-2022 is going to be crucial. I expect he’s going to exhaust himself campaigning this time, not just for himself and the Senate, but for vast numbers of House seats, too.

I was not aware of China's interest -- that could be a major concern, and all the more reason to stop transferring a $1/2 tril+ a year from our shores to the PRC.

With the world in a general and pretty predictable warming trend (unrelated to our activities) Greenland is going to open up into some pretty interesting territory. The Vikings were able to conduct some rudimentary pastoral farming there, but they got caught at the beginning of a down turn in the overall cycle. Looking out a couple hundred years though, a Greenland minus a big chunk of its ice is going to be prime settlement land, kind of a modern day “last frontier” where lots of ambitious and pot stirrers can be wooed off to to absorb their energy.
