“Strangely enough, Carroll OConnor was decidedly more liberal in real life.”
He was very pro-gun though. I saw him doing an interview on tv shortly after his drug addicted son committed suicide. The shows host tried to get him to blame the gun for his sons death. But he wasnt having any of it. Insisting it was the drugs that altered his sons behavior. Not the gun.
Insisting it was the drugs that altered his son’s behavior. Not the gun.
Very poignant post, considering the modern day massacres we are witnessing.
Looking into the vacant eyes of the young men committing these shootings, one has to wonder about the pervasive psychotropic drugs prescribed combined with all the other street drugs warping their minds.
IIRC, he went after his son's drug dealer in court.
Not sure what happened to the case.
I read O'Connor's autobiography "I Think I'm Out of Here"
Really kind of a let down.
I thought he'd have some great stories about All in the Family, but it was just mentioned in passing.
It was mostly about his acting philosophy, some mentions of his politics, "I don't know WHY someone would support republicans, they are so against what the working man needs (i.e.unions)".
But the biggest focus was on his son and how he died from drugs.
I think it broke his heart, and he was never the same.
Which is understandable.
