I fear that’s the way I am heading. It has been 7 years and I haven’t yet faced the task. Mom so wanted someone in the family to want live in the house. I keep thinking one of the kids may get a job and want to move there ... or that we get there eventually.
I have to carve out the time and energy to get going on it. It seems daunting.
I think there is a lot of that going around. My mom passed away in ‘04 and we kids were not ready. So, we didn’t divide Mom’s stuff at the time. But now, if the others haven’t figured out what they want by now, imo, they really don’t want it. They just want the memories. So, it is picture time! I will take a picture of stuff and then toss it. I’m tired of storing and I do not want to live in a museum anymore. Enough time has passed.
My oldest daughter and I packed up the house, folks were renting so it had to be done.
Most furniture was given away to family members, the rest went into storage.
BIL decided we didn’t need to pay monthly storage fee and he and his boys moved the stuff to their garage, where it just set for years.
Now due to my sister’s and BIL’s health they are looking to possibly move to assisted living soooooo, stuff all has to go away.
It is hard to go through a loved ones things but I am having so many good memories too and have shed some tears.
