The court should turn down this request.
The Feds aren't legally allowed to keep records of who had an NCIC background check to purchase a firearm, so in theory they do not have records of who owns a firearm.
(although I wouldn't bet a red cent that they faithfully comply with the law - after all it's the same government that tried to mount a coup against President Trump)
I see this as more government subterfuge to circumvent a legal restriction on their behavior.
It amounts to a work-around back door approach to obtaining some gun ownership records.
It's a safe bet that most people downloading this app own the scope and if you own the scope you no doubt own a rifle to mount it on.
