A 61-year-old man is dead after he was shot by an officer trying to enforce Marylands new red flag law in Ferndale Monday morning.
Anne Arundel County Police confirmed the police-involved shooting happened in the 100 block of Linwood Avenue around 5:17 a.m.
According to police, two officers serving a new Extreme Risk Protective Order (Red Flag Law), a Maryland protective order to remove guns from a household, shot and killed the man listed on that order.
Under the law, family, police, mental health professionals can all ask for the protective orders to remove weapons, said Sgt. Jacklyn David, with Anne Arundel County Police.

If people think that law enforcement is too ‘militarized’ now, they ain’t seen nothing yet. Your scenario is not something that should be dismissed.
If this passes a whole lot of people are going to be messed with. Which will clog up the system to the point of collapse.
Then, going back to your, very believable scenario, what happens after something like that and we find out that the person who made the accusation was lying? Will they get charged with Murder? Who cares? They ruined lives in order to harass and get someone in trouble.
I can hear them saying...”I didn’t mean for this to happen. He was mean to me and I wanted to get back at him and scare him.”
John Rosss Unintended Consequences, comes to mind.
Officials said Willis answered the door while holding a handgun.
Willis then placed the gun next to the door.
When officers began to serve him the order, Willis became irate and grabbed his gun.
One of the officers tried to take the gun from Willis, but instead Willis fired the gun.
The second officer fired a gun, striking Willis. He died at the scene.
If only law abiding citizens had the rights of illegal immigrants.
Red Flag Laws are stupid.
Not if your goal is to have a mechanism in place to confiscate all law-abiding citizens’ firearms. Once this is in place, along with laws against semi-automatics, our firearms are gone or we are felons.
Anyone who resists, gets shot as a terrorist.
Trump needs to get his $hit together on this issue. This is a country-ending, party-ending issue.
Trump should be careful.
He has a CW. He carries, or has or will when he is no longer president.
He has been accused by literally dozens of prominent people of being mentally unstable.
Silly of me? Not really because although it probably will never happen to Trump, it illustrates how dangerous a red flag law will be to any one of us, no matter hat your station in life.
I like the “Red Coat Law” description and we know how that turned out.
“We must make sure that those judged to pose a risk to public safety do not have access to firearmsand that if they do, those firearms can be taken through rapid due process. That is why I have called for Red Flag laws, also known as Extreme Risk Protection Orders. President Trump”
“Read my lips, no new taxes.” —Bush Sr
The result will be the same.
“And face it, folks, the only Republican with b*lls out there is Trump.”
Trump is our enemy in this. Don’t kid yourself.
“The SCOTUS needs to strike down many of these red flag laws.”
SCOTUS isn’t going to do anything.
As one who voted for Perot after voting exclusively for epubs, I agree.
“I can hear them saying...I didnt mean for this to happen. He was mean to me and I wanted to get back at him and scare him.”
They can explain it to God when they meet Him. I’m not interested in their piteous whining over something they should’ve known would happen, would’ve known would happen if they had two functional synapses.
Oops!
repubs.
“As one who voted for Perot after voting exclusively for epubs, I agree.”
You know, I always thought if that guy had had PowerPoint back then for all those charts, he would’ve had that election won.
JamesP81...you’re 100% right. But that does not matter and will not matter to these people. Especially to the innocent folks that will be on the receiving end of this and the cops/sheriffs that will be ordered to do it.
It’s no different than these patsies that are caught and then somehow realize what they’ve done and make a feeble attempt at accepting blame and saying their sorry. Who gives a f*ck at that point? On a side note, I don’t believe for a moment that the kid in El Paso was alone. One magazine, hitting moving targets like he did. I’d love to be investigating this. First thing I’d do is pull his phone records and track his movements from the moment he left the gun store to the moment he was captured. What gun ranges did he go to? Who taught him how to shoot? Etc etc etc, so on and so forth. This case stinks to high heaven.
“Yeah, the next guy is going to ventilate the door...”
That’s already happened in South Carolina. Gang of cops showed up at a Vietnam vet’s house. He shot seven cops, killing two.
For years I thought the idea of a manufactured mass shooting was just tin foil hat conspiracy theory. Now...I’m less convinced of that.
“Thats already happened in South Carolina. Gang of cops showed up at a Vietnam vets house. He shot seven cops, killing two.”
Do you have a link to a news article? I’d be interested learning about this.
If something like this passes, the very first response of citizens should be to begin calling in reports on every legislator that voted for it, claiming that he/she is an immediate danger and their homes should be searched.
Red Flag , take your gun or take your life
I do not want to steal this thread, but I always had a question in the back of my mind about the sudden way he withdrew from the race.
I know everyone at that time had their theory. I had none.
But now that we see how dirty the swamp really is, how the FBI, the CIA and the other spooks exert their will on the government and reviewing the fact that Perot did operate with one foot in the government and the other foot as a James Bond....did he really back out of the election for the reasons he gave or was it result of spook blackmail?
AS wealthy as he was, he almost disappeared and that is unusual in itself.
We will never know, but present events raise the question for me.
