Video games. Why were there no mass shootings until the advent of video games in the late eighties-early nineties?

Ollie Barder, who wrote the article founded and manages a mecha gaming site called “Mecha Danmashi.”

See any prejudice there? Just asking.

I remember the Texas Tower shooting in 1966. Then I believe that Colummbine in the nineties was the next. There was a big gap in time between the two and then it became more and more frequent.

Look at Antifa which is free to roam around freely in Portland intimidating and assaulting innocent people while the Mayor DOES NOTHING! The Democrat party is a national organization which works together, the Mayors know the judges, the FBI, the legislators etc. It is called the Democratic party machine. There are also Republicans who are evil and join the cabal.

Who did the study? The guy who wrote the article just wrote it.

I guess my point is, do your own research before saying stuff with no basis on a public forum. Quite frankly, I really don’t care.

“Shooting accurately is muscle memory from practice. Video games either use a keyboard and mouse, or joystick/controller. Neither combo will impart the necessary muscle memory for accurate shooting.” [IYAS9YAS, post 70]

“...the most popular shooter games back then used pistol shape controllers or you controlled a pointing pistol with a joystick. Both contributed to instant point-and-shoot accuracy...the military did use those same games for instant point-and-shoot training for a time until they developed their own...take the Army’s implied word over speculation about keyboards and joysticks.” [arthurus, post 112]

Both assertions are very much outdated, in assuming that some universal skill can be developed when it comes to “accurate” shooting.

The ability to obtain hits with hand-held small arms is entirely different from that required to obtain hits with crew-served weapon systems such as tank guns & artillery pieces. Skill with small arms does not even transfer across different hand-held weapons (rifle, pistol, shotgun). The US military establishment trains specialists in all these areas differently.

It gets worse: obtaining good results in action with the same small arm can require different skills & training, for different combat environments. Using the M4 carbine (closest item to an “official issue” long gun among US forces today) in an urban setting requires a very different skill set, compared to a longer-range, more rural environment.

Give up the fantasy that the Mandalay Bay concert-killings incident of 2017 demanded some unusually high level of training, therefore it could only have been perpetrated by an individual who had undergone government training. The range may have been longer than other mass-murder shootings, but the target was huge, soft, densely packed, unable to return fire, immobilized, and incapable of taking cover.

Go look up the US Army Quick Kill program, for additional insight into skill-set differences.

Morons!

Yes, lets blame it on video games.. ANYTHING but shit parenting from the adult spoiled children of us baby-boomers.

arthurus- Where do you get this crap? I am both a shooter and a gamer. I can say with conviction that there's no firearm available to the general public that is aimed with the thumb like they are in video games. So how do they make the perp "more accurate"?

DU is missing a coupla village idiots.. Go home.. d:^|

Parents used to raise kids. Now the village does. This village consists of Day care, Public School, TV, computer, phone, prescriptions, Hollywood.

AGREE. Parents are absent or function as just older friends rather than as responsible adults to their kids. Nobody grows up any more. Thirty year olds think of themselves as kids, a candidate for President is as likely to skateboard onto the stage as she is to bark like a dog.

All societal support is going to girls.

That was my point. There is no one reason why these mass killings are committed. To pretend so makes it more difficult to at least reduce the number of episodes.

The theory is that this is a new type of nihilist thrill killer. It started with the Christchurch shooter. The confusing manifestos that deliberately stir up the media are part of the ‘fun’.
