What surprised me - “I’m only hungry when I eat”; what I mean by that I can fast for 24 hours and not be particularly hungry. This is my routine, 24 hour fast every day. Part of the time I’m hungry, yes. Not what I thought it must be like. Most of the time not at all.
But when I was eating 3 squares a day, snacking, that made me hungry all the time! It’s those glucose blood sugar swings. Like pouring gasoline on the fire. It’s boom and bust.
The next thing that surprised me was just how many calories are in the foods we eat. Peanut Butter is about 90 calories per tablespoon.
So what I used to consider basically a snack - a peanut butter sandwich, tall glass of milk, and a small handful of chips - is 1,040 calories!
It’s a tough sell to tell people they can only eat a peanut butter sandwich today if they want to achieve any meaningful weight loss in a reasonable time period. Tonite I might make a Reuben sandwich. Maybe a hamburger.
I do 18-6 or OMAD, I find if I’m feeling hungry, if I just drink some water it generally goes away.
Until you weigh/ measure your food; I did for six months, every single thing that I ingested at the time, most people have no idea how many Kcals they’re consuming.
