Instead of trying to throw stuff at him, grab the nearest dry chemical fire extinguisher. In a large store they will be mounted on columns with a big red sign. If the dude walks by within 15 feet or so aim for the face pull the pin mash the handle and charge him. With a face full of dry chem all he is going to be worried about is his next breath. Figure on a good 10-15 seconds of good spray before it begins to diminish. Commence the ax kicks as he lays on the ground.

GREAT IDEA..... also, one could also grab a can of HORNET SPRAY, which works at an approximately 30 foot reach. There are people in our neighborhood who carry it to take care of stray dogs while they walk.
