I am not going to give you a rah, rah answer, EarlyBird, because I suspect we have all felt similar frustration, particularly about losing the House. I know I have.
However, I also know that some of the R. Congressmen we lost were not solidly behind the President. And I am not just talking about the ones that said so in public. (I know this for a fact.)
Also, there were the mysterious resignations or refusals to run again by so many. I am convinced we still do not have the real information behind many of these; but, regardless, it is not something the President could do anything about.
Likewise, we have to recognize the Senate "majority" was illusory--with Flake, No-name, Corker etc. You have to admit President Trump worked his heart out to keep and enhance the Senate ... which of course is also the key to ongoing confirmations of federal judiciary.
In summary, I think it was essential for President Trump to strengthen his defensive position before going on all-out attack. As a military man, I'm sure you can appreciate the fact that he may have had more insights into the actual strengths and weaknesses of his position (especially in early 2017 when the SC was appointed), than even you or I.
Some people are just immature whiners who sing “I WANT IT ALL - I WANT IT ALL - I WANT IT ALL AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!”.
