Someone plowing the field in Newton Grove had hit a large stone while working earlier and moved it over to the edge of the field, said Mary Beth Fitts, assistant archaeologist at the North Carolina Office of State Archaeology. But when the property owner stopped to look at it, he discovered it wasnt just any stone. When he turned it over, he found a face carved into the front of it and called the Office of State Archaeology, Fitts said. But experts are unsure what exactly it is. Its a very unusual artifact, Fitts said. We havent seen anything like that before. The office posted a 3D model of the sculpture on Facebook on Monday in hopes of crowd sourcing to find out more about it. Were hoping maybe someone has seen something like it, Fitts said. The sculpture is made of sandstone and is 22.2 inches long and 15.75 inches wide, the office wrote on Facebook. We dont know what tool was used, but sandstone is a softer rock and more easily shaped than most common rock types in NC, the office said. Fitts said the office doesnt know how old the sculpture is but because its made of limestone which doesnt take special tools to carve, it could be of any age.

Yup! That’s Mueller. Some snowflake probably dropped their good luck charm while taking a “selfie”.
How many phallic carvings have two nostrils?
Thanks Beowulf9.
I not sure any stone is soft enough to carve with a phallus, but then, I'm not as young as I used to be.
Doesnt look Cherokee. Must be ALIEN!
So much for peaceful, spiritually ascended NAs.
Instantly...Viking.
100%
Lucky I put my coffee cup down before I read that, LOL!
The extremely round eyes and the long chin aren’t typically native American features. It might have been carved by a European or by someone who had observed Europeans.
LOL!
Or perhaps it’s already upsidedown.
If I’d seen the face of a man with four nostrils, I’d want to memorialize it too.
this one would have two urethral openings then and appears circumsized if your theory was correct in this case.
"What the hell is that?"
