PRIOR Q DROP
media-consolidation.png
I’m fairly certain GE sold off most of those media properties - forget who they went to though.
Comcast is not owned by GE. Comcast is a publicly traded company in it's own right, CMCSA on the NASDAQ.
Comcast owns NBC Universal, which they bought from GE. Per Wikipedia: " Since 2013, the company is wholly owned by Comcast, which bought GE's ownership stake."
It is the second-largest broadcasting and cable television company in the world by revenue and the largest pay-TV company, the largest cable TV company and largest home Internet service provider in the United States, and the nation's third-largest home telephone service provider. Comcast services U.S. residential and commercial customers in 40 states and in the District of Columbia.[9] As the owner of the international media company NBCUniversal since 2011,[10][11][12][13]So, if you want an accurate meme you should replace the GE column with Comcast, who own NBCUniversal. GE doesn't participate in media much anymore.Comcast is a producer of feature films and television programs intended for theatrical exhibition and over-the-air and cable television broadcast, respectively.
Another error: Time/Warner no longer exists.
On October 22, 2016, AT&T announced an offer to acquire Time Warner for $108.7 billion (including assumed Time Warner debt).[5][6] The proposed merger was confirmed on June 12, 2018,[7] after AT&T won an antitrust lawsuit that the U.S. Justice Department filed in 2017 to attempt to block the acquisition.[8] The merger closed two days later, with the company becoming a subsidiary of AT&T.[9]So that column should probably be re-lableled at AT&T.
None of these errors detracts from the main point that the media is pretty consolidated.
I’m pretty sure GE divested the stock-sinker NBC by 2011....maybe 2012. But don’t quote me on that.
not quite right
