Women are better at language, and live longer.
A neighbor gal of ours was a medic. She started off in a base in Iraq - but she said she ended up treating mostly the locals. She wanted to be helping our boys. She kept requesting to be put on patrols with them.
She finally got to go out on patrol. As a female medic she was important as she could help the local village women and children and show good will.
After that, she was always being requested by the squad leaders or whomever to be on patrols. Continuing into Afghanistan.
Her mom asked her once if it was dangerous. “Um mom - it’s Afghanistan!” But she did get her wish to treat wounded U.S. guys.
Her sister is currently a helicopter crew chief.
