ACTRESS Lashana Lynch will take on the iconic spy role of 007 in Bond 25, according to reports.
While titular hero James Bond will still be portrayed by Daniel Craig, 51, writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge has introduced a major twist to the long-running franchise.
She will introduce the Captain Marvel star, 31, as the current 007's replacement within the secret service, while a decision has yet to be made who will take over from Craig in Bond 26.
An insider told the Mail: "There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says 'Come in 007', and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman.
"Its a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but hes been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman."
The source also revealed that Bond will be brought out of retirement in Jamaica to thwart a "global crisis".
It comes after it was revealed Cristoph Waltz will reprise the role of Blofeld in the flick after he was spotted on set at Pinewood Studios.
The star, 62, played the head of a shadowy organisation of villains in 2015's Spectre, and is back for a second outing despite previously claiming he wouldn't be in the next flick.
The Mail's Baz Bamigboye broke the news on Twitter, posting: "Exclusive:Hello Mr Waltz... weve been expecting you.#ChristophWaltz is back as #Blofeld in @007 #Bond25 , shooting scenes at Pinewood studios . When a visitor spotted him , Waltz insisted , You havent seen me.
The Sun Online has contacted a representative for Cristoph for comment.
Super-villain Blofeld tried to establish a global surveillance network in Spectre that would enable the organisation to monitor and evade criminal investigations at the highest level.
In an explosive finale, Blofeld's helicopter was shot down and the villain was seen crawling from the wreckage.
But with his fate left up in the air, it looks as if he evaded arrest.
Earlier this month Bond bosses insisted the next 007 film will be in cinemas in just nine months' time despite being rocked by a string of disasters.
A spokesperson for the spy franchise told The Sun Online that the 25th Bond movie would definitely be released in the UK on 3 April next year.
The troubled film has been hit with several calamities - including three explosions, a crocked Daniel Craig and Grace Jones walking out.
A triple explosion erupted at the 007 Stage at the movie franchise's Pinewood Studios base in London last month.
A crew member sustained an injury during the blast, which took off part of the roof and several wall panels.
The disaster came after Bond star Daniel was injured while shooting scenes in Jamaica, forcing filming to be delayed.
He has now had an ankle ligament operation and was pictured with his leg in a supportive medical boot following surgery.
The Sun revealed how the troubled film suffered another blow when Grace quit her much-hyped role moments after arriving on set.
Grace, who played villain May Day in 1985s A View To A Kill, walked away after discovering how few lines shed been given.
The film was also thrown off course by the departure of original director Danny Boyle, who quit over a script dispute, in August 2018.
Barf! Haven’t watched a Bond movie since they replaced Sean Connery — the one and only 007!
I must disagree. It has nothing to do with convincing white men about anything.
The producers and the writers, in all their ignorance, have never met anyone like themselves who thinks this could be a bad decision. It’s really that simple. Talk to fans?
Why bother? They talk with each other all the time. And as they buy their expensive lunches they shrug and say who would disagree with having a 077 who is the polar opposite of what he’s been for 60 years.
Dumb clucks.
I have a feeling they will write the plot so that if a female Bond is a box office stinker, they will be able to write her off in the next movie. Like George Lazenby.
Sounds like Hollywood attempting to facilitate Big Mike for president...
Sorry, me & my money will remain unseparated on this one.
Any screenplay that accurately depicts Bond as the author Fleming intended is worthy. All else fails.
Absolutely !!!!!
Guess they want to destroy the Bond series!!!!
OK, here goes, I am going against the prevailing tide.
With respect to those people that actually do spy work, the Brits found out females were quite effective in WWII simply because no one ever expected a woman to do such work. I learned this on some BBC stuff regarding WWII history. I believe the Nazi’s and Soviets took advantage of this too.
Now I can realistically see a woman do clandestine work within her physical limitations. However Hollywood has little 100 pound hotties throwing around 300 lb men.
My point is, if this show is properly done, it might be good. However we all know political correctness will prevail and the movie will suck accordingly.
Sorry, there is only one 007 and that is Sean Connery !
The difference there is that they brought back Connery to revive the franchise. It’s going to be a lot harder to revive the franchise if they turn off the fans this time.
I’ve been somewhat turned off already.
will probably be as bad as the first female Dr Who
will she be a lesbian ????
If shes stunning, I must be out of this world gorgeous!
Like "Caitlyn" Jenner and Michelle Obama, if we tell you she's beautiful, then she's beautiful.
Female 007 is worst marketing decision since the New Coke. Good luck with that!
The Bond persona is equally as important as the action and storylines.Part of James Bond’s appeal is that he is such a charming male chauvinist womanizer. Sorry but a black woman in the role does not compute.
I can’t believe the producers are considering this. It’s been a golden franchise since about 1962. I am 64 and saw “Dr. No” when it came out and that series has been a big part of a lot lives for a long time.
Frankly I am surprised it has lasted this long.
We have had plenty of movies with strong female characters and yet I guess the goal of Femenists is take down the last bastion of male dominance.
About two years ago the movie “Atomic Blonde” came out with a uber cool female spy. The movie was pretty good and the fight scenes were brutal though, no woman would come out looking as good as the hero in that film did, she would be in the hospital. It also had the sex seduction scene, but it was a lesbian one, which was to be expected.
Sorry “Jane Bond” isn’t going to work. Will she be Bi-Sexual so she can get information form both sexes? The series was great because it allowed for a suspension of belief and gave great escapism to everyone.
If they do this then I guess my long love affair watching Bond is over. I will always have the films a I really liked and can watch anytime. I suspect the first film may do well out of curiosity value, after that I don’t know.
Heck, I stopped when Sean Connery did. Saw part of one with the following actors and quit early, did not work at all.
It’s called “Bond 25” because that’s the expected audience.
From Wikipedia:
Another general attitude and prejudice of Fleming’s that Bond gives voice to includes his approach to homosexuality. While Fleming had a number of gay friends, including Noël Coward and his editor, William Plomer, he said that his books were “written for warm-blooded heterosexuals”.[74] His attitude went further, with Bond opining that homosexuals were “a herd of unhappy sexual misfits barren and full of frustrations, the women wanting to dominate and the men to be nannied”, adding that “he was sorry for them, but he had no time for them.
I find the name Lynch offensive.
