CRAP from low mentality team of researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Maryland at College Park.
"Though we do not make any claims about the actual emotions a person is experiencing, our approach can provide an estimate of the perceived emotion of that walking style," Aniket Bera, a Research Professor in the Computer Science department, supervising the research, told TechXplore.
"Our research is at a very primitive stage," Bera said.

Actor Clark Gable had a walking coach who practiced with him to imitate the way heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey walked.
Elvis Presley studied and worked to imitate football player Jim Brown’s way of walking back to the huddle once a play was over.
One study concluded that actor Charles Bronson’s way of walking was the most manly of all.
The study with the Bronson conclusion was done by having former [ supposedly reformed ] muggers watch films of various people walking and then telling which subjects they would choose to mug and which subjects they would not.

In a time of facial recognition software, this is a perfectly reasonable line of study.
If perfected, it will help prevent terror attacks.
Of course, it will also violate the privacy of the rest of us as well. But what doesn't nowadays.;-)
